What are pores? Simply put, they are little openings on the skin’s surface that produce sebum (oil) and serve as pathways for hair follicles. For some people they can appear to be enlarged. Pores are usually enlarged when dirt, oil, and debris get trapped in them, expanding the skin, and as result, making the pore size larger. This is why it is so important to wash your face in the morning and at night. Cleaning your skin can really help to keep pore size to a minimum. For our patients with oily skin; however, they often have larger pores due to higher sebum (oil) production. If you don’t prioritize cleansing, pores can get clogged with bacteria, or dead skin cells, which can cause pimples and/or acne.
