They say eyes are windows into the soul. For some, wrinkles around the eyes (aka crow’s feet) signify wisdom – a reminder to revel in their age. For others, those crow’s feet lines are a reminder of aging each time they look in the mirror, and they’d prefer to say adios to them vs. keep them. There’s no right or wrong here; the decision is personal, respected, and YOURS.
So let’s jump in. Here’s how Botox helps to revitalize the eye area.

Where can Botox be used around your eyes?
Botox injections are permitted for use around certain areas of your eyes. FDA-approved injection sites include:
- frown lines or “elevens” situated just above the nose
- Crow’s feet (wrinkles on the outer corners of the eyes)
- Horizontal lines on the forehead
Botox treatment involves injecting botulinum toxin type A into facial muscle. This disrupts signals between nerves and facial muscles, preventing the latter from contracting. What does this mean? Well, relaxed muscles can’t wrinkle the skin above as long as the neurotoxin remains active.
What can Botox treat around your eyes?
The effects of Botox vary depending on where it’s applied on the face. Injection sites are intentionally chosen to target specific wrinkles and lines. Botox around the eyes treats dynamic wrinkles in a number of areas.
As you know, elevens and crow’s feet are treated. However, some aesthetic injectors and patients claim that Botox is super useful for reducing dark circles and bags around and under the eyes. Research suggests the effectiveness of Botox used in this way is determined by whether other areas around the eyes were also treated.
How many units of Botox can you have around your eyes?
So, how many units of Botox are allowed in a single treatment around the eyes? In the initial treatment session, the number of units is kept low, and just a small dosage is injected into the under-eye area.
Of course, whether you book a session for under-eye treatment is completely up to you. However, we always recommend you go to a qualified aesthetic injector. Choosing an experienced and qualified aesthetic injector ensures you get the best and safest practice.
Botox vs Fillers around your eyes
It is always important to remember that Botox is not your only option for reducing wrinkles. Other alternatives and even lifestyle changes help keep you looking young and beautiful. Dermal fillers are just one of these alternatives. Just like Botox, dermal fillers are injectable treatments. Instead of a neurotoxin that relaxes muscles, however, dermal fillers rely on a gel-like substance to restore volume to facial areas and reduce facial lines.
So, which is the better treatment for areas around your eyes?
That depends on the condition of your wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are just that; dynamic! Which means they vary from person to person for a multitude of reasons. Let’s consider someone who lives for the sun. Did you know that sun damage to soft tissue causes damage to facial skin? These fine lines are actually deep creases in the skin caused by soft tissue atrophy, which is where the skin suffers from shrinkage. Yikes!
There’s a loss of facial volume as a result of this. In this instance, we would recommend dermal filler injections, as the gel-like substance can replace lost facial volume. Again, it depends on why and how your eye area became wrinkled, which determines which treatment is best for you.
How soon will you see results, and how long do they last?
Botox around the eyes usually lasts anywhere between three and four months. You should start to see the effects of Botox three to seven days after treatment. Botox usually wears off a little quicker after the first treatment but lasts for several months following multiple follow-ups. Discuss your desired results during these sessions, and the practitioner will adjust treatments accordingly.
