5 Green Trends To Watch In Skincare

Over the past few years, consumers have become more and more concerned with eco-friendly or green products. Whether it’s moving away from fast fashion, boycotting plastic straws, or investing in a good reusable water bottle, the environmental impact of products is on everyone’s mind. The skincare industry is no exception.

Our Favorite Green Skin Care Trends

With Earth Day just over a week away (April 22nd), we thought it was the perfect time to share our favorite green skincare trends to watch.

Banning MicroBeads

Microbeads or the plastic particles brands use as a scrubbing agent, have been shown to be especially damaging to the environment. Although they were all the rage in the late 90s and early 2000s, they caused so much damage to our oceans that a ban was introduced in 2015. Ever since then, many brands are switching to more natural ingredients. Look for scrubs and other exfoliant products with environmentally friendly bead alternatives like diatomaceous earth, clay, seaweed, gemstones, waxes like beeswax, rice bran, or jojoba, and flours like rice, chickpea, or oat. When included in products, they create a feeling of grains on the skin to help in the exfoliation process.

Using Recycled Packaging

With the Environmental Protection Agency reporting that the average American creates 4.4 pounds of trash a day, brands are now innovating ways to reduce packaging. At Facial Aesthetics, we’ve taken serious action in becoming a greener company, especially when it comes to carrying our product brands. We really appreciate the brands that answer the bell when it comes to recycling and protecting our environment. There are many brands that do not come in packaging specifically for this reason. We’ve always believed that small steps can lead to big changes. That means fewer boxes and more recyclable materials.

Focusing On Clean Products

Every day we’re becoming more and more aware of what we put into our bodies. The same thing goes for our skin. People want their products to be clean and safe for their skin. A key point here is to use products with biocompatible ingredients. People will start avoiding products with parabens, phthalates, toxins, and synthetic colors.

Not only because of its efficacy, but this was a huge reason we brought on spa skincare brand, Eminence Organics. They’re cruelty-free and formulated without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, animal by-products, phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan. We predict clean skincare is a trend that will stay. In fact, many other brands, even clinical grade, are free of many of these elements that we’re proud to carry at Facial Aesthetics

Tea Infused Products

Brands are finally spilling the tea on tea-infused products. Tea has always been a favorite when it comes to effective natural ingredients. From hydration to exfoliation, tea has so many different benefits for our skin. Think green tea and chamomile. So, host the tea party, and share your fave products with your friends. Tea-based products are finding their way into our products and as part of our skincare routines.

Pollution Fighting

Not only are skincare brands focusing on ways to make products better for the environment, but they are also focusing on ways to protect your skin from the environment, specifically regarding pollution. Anti-pollutant products are another name for antioxidant rich products because antioxidants fight free radicals. Key ingredients to look for in pollution-fighting products are antioxidants: Vitamin C, retinoids, Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Squalene, Resveratrol, and others.
